1. Eat Healthy

Remember, your skin is made up of cells, and your cells need good nutrients to operate at their highest levels. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, and if you’re going to consume meat, try and eat white meat, like chicken and fish.

The list of healthy eatables is endless but here are a few healthy and easily available foods that will be helpful for your skin:

  • Avocados
  • Walnuts
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Green tea
  • Grapes

2. Drink Plenty Of Water

Drinking an adequate amount of water daily is important for overall good health because water aids in digestion, circulation, absorption and even excretion. But what about drinking large amounts of water for proper skin health?

Fact is that skin is an organ, and just like any other part of the body. your skin is made up of cells. And skin cells, like any other cell in the body, are made up of water. Without water, the organs will certainly not function properly or at their best. If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling.

You should aim to drink at least two liters of water per day. You might even need to drink a couple of extra glasses if you regularly work out. A key rule to remember is that you’re already dehydrated by the time you feel thirsty, so try and drink water consistently throughout the day rather than having several glasses over a couple short periods.

3. Sound Sleep Is The Key

It’s always suggested to sleep like a baby. While you’re sleeping, the body’s hydration rebalances. Skin is able to recover moisture, while excess water in general in the body is processed for removal. Not getting enough sleep results in poor water balance, leading to puffy bags under your eyes and under-eye circles, as well as dryness and more visible wrinkles.

Lack of sleep accelerates the aging process. During deep sleep, the rise in growth hormones allows damaged cells to be repaired. Without the deeper phases of sleep, this won’t occur, allowing daily small breakdowns to accumulate instead of being reversed overnight. This results in more noticeable signs of aging.

Try and get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night – some people might even need 9 or 10 hours of sleep to be fully rested.

4. Protection From Sun

There is no doubt that sun is the source of life on earth, but the UV rays which are a part of its light spectrum are also know to damage our skin cells causing burns and in severe cases skin cancer also. So, some physical or chemical barriers are importat to protect skin from there rays. A recent study has shown that just 14% of American men and 30% of American women regularly put sunscreen on their faces and other exposed skin before heading outside for more than an hour.

  1. Apply at least one ounce of sunscreen (enough to fill a shot glass) at least 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Also use a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.
  2. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB radiation. Make sure it is water resistant and has a SPF of 30 or higher. Other sunscreens may help keep you from getting sunburned, but they won’t protect against skin cancer.
  3. Keep babies younger than 6 months old completely covered and in the shade.
  4. Limit the amount of time you’re in the sun between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This is when the sun’s rays are the most intense.

5. Moisturize

Apply a hydrating moisturizer within 2 minutes of leaving the bath or shower. The skin is still porous and is vulnerable to products that are applied following the bath or shower, allowing better absorption. Apply a product containing hyaluronic acid prior to your moisturizer. Hyaluronic acid holds 1,000 times its own weight in water, thus attracting water to the skin and holding it there.

6. Keep Stress At Bay

Stress can affect your whole body, including your hair, nails, and skin. Since stress is a part of life, what matters is how you handle it. Stress causes a chemical response in your body that makes skin more sensitive and reactive. It can also make it harder for skin problems to heal.
Have you ever noticed that you break out more when you’re stressed? This is because stress causes your body to make hormones like cortisol, which tells glands in your skin to make more oil. Oily skin is more prone to acne and other skin problems.Take time for yourself to do something you enjoy, even if you only have 10 minutes. Take a bath or read a book.Practice stress management techniques, such as breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, or visual imagery.

7. Exercise

Regular exercise improves the health of the skin by improving blood circulation to the skin surface. This helps to supply essential nutrients to the skin. Aerobic exercise makes you sweat and promotes the removal of toxins through perspiration.
